Transport Officer (5) positions


Location: Kampala (1), Kayunga, (2) Fort portal (2)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To drive project vehicle/s to carry out authorized project’s activities.
  2. To deliver and or collect project materials, documents and correspondences to/from various locations, including upcountry locations/field offices.
  3. To receive/take project visitors at/to the airport whenever they travel and ensure they are safely transported to their destinations.
  4. To keep a vehicle log book indicating authorized users of the project vehicle, mileage, fuel consumption and such other details of trips undertaken as may be required.
  5. To ensure the project vehicle is properly cleaned, serviced and maintained in an excellent condition at all times.
  6. In liaison with the administrator, to ensure that license, parking stickers, insurance and all other requirements by any authority are fulfilled and are up to date at all times.


Education and Experience:

  1. At least “O” level education.
  2. Training in Motor Vehicle Mechanics is an added advantage
  3. A clean driving permit.
  4. Accident free driving of at least six (5) years.
  5. Previous experience in reputable organizations, supported by credible references.


Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of applicable Ugandan traffic laws and regulations
  2. Ability to work effectively with other employees
  3. Knowledge and ability to do light vehicle and building maintenance (e.g. tires/light bulbs, wind shield wipers, oil changes)
  4. Ability to maintain accurate, complete and confidential records
  5. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  6. Willingness to put extra time and effort when required.

PHYSICAL ABILITY: The ability to frequently travel between MUWRP head offices in Kampala and other MUWRP sites in Uganda.

Position Title: ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT (1)



JOB SUMMARY:  Incumbent will be located at the Makerere University/Walter Reed Program (MUWRP) in Kampala.  The Accounts Assistant will provide overall support to the Finance section in the areas of petty cash management, voucher preparation, following up accountability of working advances, filling of accounting documents and entering accounting data into the accounting software. This position requires keen attention to detail and high levels of confidentiality and integrity.


  1. Verifying the accuracy and approval of invoices, purchase orders and other accounting documents or records placed for payment.
  2. Mobile money payment processing to include verification of beneficiary’s mobile numbers and related beneficiary’s names and uploading correctly verified numbers and names to mobile money payment platforms.
  3. Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions
  4. Handling /entering approved payment requests and purchase orders into accounting software- Microsoft Dynamics NAV
  5. Uploading payments into the online banking platform ( Straight2bank for SCB and Citi online banking for CITIBANK)
  6. Carrying out field visits to ensure project resources are put to the right use.
  7. Assist in the review of accountability provided by the districts and CSOs
  8. Preparation/ lining up of payment vouchers for both cash and bank payments
  9. Carrying out banking duties as a third party agent including making cash deposits, cash withdrawals, picking bank statements and other related tasks
  10. Follows up accountability of advances following procedures in the accounting manual
  11. Processing receipts and sales invoices for Lab incomes
  12. Regular update of payment schedule file for DFA or his designee to determine required funding levels for the different bank accounts.
  13. Participate in the month end closures
  14. Participate in the preparation of Audit files / Audit processes
  15. Reconcile bank statements by comparing statements with general ledger.
  16. Other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor and / or Head of Department

Required Education and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Experience with using Microsoft Dynamics NAV
  • 3 Years Work Experience in a busy office environment
  • Fluency in verbal and written English.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.


Supervisory controls: The Incumbent will work under the supervision of the Finance Manager


Physical capabilities: Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally or other means as deemed appropriate.  The Incumbent will work at MUWRP Plot 42 Nakasero Road and should be able to travel to the Project’s Collaborative Sites.

Position Title: Community Outreach officer

Position Location: Kampala (1)

Job Summary: To promote meaningful and mutually beneficial community participation in MUWRP Work.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain close collaborative links with study communities through meetings with key stakeholders and study participants and working closely with project leaders on providing feedback to stake holders.
  • Conduct meetings with peer leaders of study participants to guide organization’s operations with the study population
  • Develop, implement and evaluate volunteer recruitment strategies and outreach efforts to increase awareness of, and enrolment into clinical research studies
  • The Candidate will engage in public relation activities within and out of the organization.
  • Support documenting organization‘s activities through writing impact stories, writing reports, working with relevant personnel to regularly update the institutional website.
  • Facilitate enrolment of research volunteers into the study.
  • Administer questionnaires to research volunteers
  • Conduct health education to Research Participants
  • Work with the research team to monitor and follow up of study participants for study compliance
  • Identify and bring to the attention of the research team, key barriers to research participant recruitment
  • Conduct home visits for the research volunteers if needed.
  • Take part in organizing project’s events and commemoration of the HIV international days
  •  Facilitate CAB functions.


Education, Skills and Experience needed

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mass communication, Adult and Community Education, Social sciences or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Health communication, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Use of media technology, preparing IEC materials.
  • Experience with developing and updating website content will be added advantage.
