Message From the Principal Investigator

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) official website. MUWRP is a Non Governmental not for profit HIV research organization dedicated to finding a safe and effective HIV vaccine.

Recently, MUWRP expanded her portfolio to include active surveillance of Influenza and Influenza-like viruses in humans, animals and migratory birds in Uganda. Infrastructure has been developed and capacity built in clinical and immunological laboratory testing, data management, conducting clinical trials and other related activities.

The communities in Kampala and Kayunga districts have been actively engaged through general community sensitization on HIV and HIV vaccine research, media trainings, policy markers’ dialogue sessions, and working with Community Advisory Boards (CAB).

In Kayunga, in addition to research activities, we have worked with and supported the District Health Department to establish a comprehensive HIV/AIDS Program through PEPFAR funding providing treatment and care for People Living With HIV and AIDS, home based care services for orphans and vulnerable children, ART laboratory testing within the district hospital, VCT outreaches, capacity building with the district health information services and a vibrant youth center.
