The Acute Febrile Illness (AFI) study protocol is implemented to establish the epidemiology of AFI in Uganda by establishing the occurrence of AFI agents of pandemic potential, exploring the role of unknown agents, determining the distribution and ecology of disease vectors and establishing capabilities for rapid detection, identification and response to these pathogens.

Currently the program is being established at five sites including, the UPDF General Military Hospital at Bombo, Mulago National Referral Hospital, Gulu and Jina Regional Referral Hospitals, and Bwera General Hospital in Kasese.
